Frequently Asked Questions

What type of facial should I get?

Depends on your age and what you are looking for! A good rule of thumb is to begin with the West End Signature Facial since it covers all skin types and conditions. However, if you are over the age of 35, I would recommend the Anti-Aging if you are looking for stronger results. All are great, and we will always re-direct if we see your skin is not suited for a particular treatment.

Will my skin break-out afterwards?

The average complexion does not break-out after a facial, but if you lean towards problematic skin this can and may occur. Therefore, we suggest you to not book an appointment right before a big event unless we have been working together and understand your skin.

I am getting married and wonder when should I come in?

With wedding preparations we recommend to start preparing your skin 8-10 months before your big day. This allows us to work together several times to strengthen your skin and get your skin in the best shape for a smooth make-up application and glorious photos!

Do men get facials?

Yes! More and more men are finding the benefits of good grooming habits, and hygiene. They do not have the luxury of hiding flaws behind make-up typically and have skin conditions to manage too!

How often do I get a facial?

We recommend every 4-6 weeks for most significant results.  It takes 28 days for skin cells to turn over. If you schedule a facial every 4 weeks we can exfoliate the old ones to prevent dullness and break-outs.  Not everyone can come in as often as they would like, however being here in New England I try and encourage clients to see me quarterly, and optimally at the change of season.

Do I tip?

Traditionally gratuity has always been a non-issue at West End Skincare, however, as the business grows we follow the traditional philosophy of associates accept gratuity, and the owner does not.  Gratuity is typically 20% of service and much appreciated.

What Is an Esthetician?

An esthetician is a person who specializes in the beautification of the skin. Estheticians are not medical doctors; instead, they perform cosmetic skin treatments, such as facials, anti-aging treatments, chemical peels, waxing/hair removal, and lash enhancements. Trained in skin care products, they also help assist in selecting home care for an individual’s skin condition and skin type~especially helpful for us here in the northeast with four seasons.

Where is your office located?

We are located at 875 Islington Street in the West End of Portsmouth, NH, within the historic Button Factory. You can find the studio entrance located on the right side of the building, behind Gateway Tai Chi. We are happy to offer all of our clients on-site parking.
